Augustine Die & Mold, Inc. Awarded HUBZone Certification from Small Business Administration

Somerset, PA (February, 2018) Augustine Die & Mold, Inc., a Somerset, PA based company offering precision machining, specializing in aerospace and defense applications along with design, manufacturing, and repair services for tooling in the plastics industry, announced today that it has been certified by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to participate in the Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) program.

The HUBZone program helps small businesses in urban and rural communities gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities.  These preferences go to small businesses that obtain HUBZone certification in part by employing staff who live in a HUBZone.  The Federal Government has an annual goal of awarding 3% of all federal prime contracts to HUBZone-certified business concerns.

“This certification allows us to bring our expertise in precision machining services to government customers in a more direct and strategic way.  We’re confident that becoming HUBZone certified will open greater opportunities not only for our company but for our customers, partners, and employees in Somerset County,” noted James Brown, the company’s President & CEO.  “This award would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our administrative team and the support of the JARI Procurement Technical Assistance Center.”

Chairman and Founder, Tony Augustine, remarked, “We are pleased to receive this noteworthy certification.  As a Somerset based manufacturing company pursuing government contracts, this certification will allow us to help government procurement officers achieve their set-aside goals.”

Augustine Die & Mold assists with design and manufacturing of new Warren C. Giles NLCS Trophy

In early 2016, Tom Shimrock from Wood Art in Grantsville, MD contacted Augustine Die & Mold to assist him on the project of re-designing and manufacturing a new Warren C. Giles Trophy.  This trophy is awarded each year to the Major League Baseball National League Champions.

Tom had been working with the Major League Baseball Association to update the Warren C. Giles trophy.  He wanted to keep a lot of the same elements and features of the previous trophy, but wanted the new trophy to have a facelift with a more modern design.  Tom was looking for a local machine shop to discuss machining a few of the necessary components for the project.  He found Augustine Die & Mold on the internet and scheduled a meeting to discuss the project.

Augustine Die & Mold, Inc. (ADM), located in the Somerset Industrial Park, is a part of The Augustine Group of Companies who is a multifaceted group of manufacturing companies which serve a broad array of end markets throughout the world.  Its core businesses consist of Augustine Die & Mold, Inc. (ADM), an ISO 9001:2008, ITAR, and AS9100 Rev C certified company offering precision machining and tool & die design, manufacturing, and repair services; and Augustine Plastics, Inc. (API), an ISO 9001:2008 certified custom plastic injection molder.

ADM, with its full design and manufacturing capabilities, worked with Tom to bring his design concept to reality.  The design was brought to life through the use of Creo Parametric 3D CAD Software to make sure every element fit properly prior to manufacturing.  The team at Augustine’s worked with Tom and provided him with the design so he could manufacture the necessary wood components and bring everything together. ADM also used the high precision machining equipment to produce many of the individual components of the trophy.  The very skilled machinists used waterjet cutting, manual machining, and 4 and 5-axis CNC machining to create many of the components.

The team at ADM has taken a tremendous amount of pride in being part of creating a trophy that will be passed on from year to year to the National League Champions of our nation’s oldest professional sport.

On October 22nd, 2016 the Chicago Cubs defeated the LA Dodgers in Game 6 of the NLCS.  The new Warren C. Giles trophy was presented for the 1st time to the Chicago Cubs who advanced to the 2016 World Series.

Pictured below is Owner / Chairman of Augustine Die & Mold, Tony Augustine, with the completed trophy.  ADM would like to thank Tom and Dana Shimrock for the opportunity to be a part of this incredible program.
